The United Nations humanitarian coordinator in Libya, Maria Ribeiro, said that 130 Libyan civilians have been killed since the beginning of the year 2018.
“Today we have to recognize the suffering of civilians affected by conflict,” Ribeiro said in commemoration of World Humanitarian Day.
“Many families in Libya are struggling to make a living and provide the necessary sustenance to their families. Schools are affected and children miss the opportunity to learn. Women and girls face great risks of being exposed to sexual violence. “While medical workers are trying to help the wounded and sick, their ability to work is endangered by violence and threats.”
